Agitations: Breakup not an option, says Mark

Former Senate President , David Mark , has stressed that the breakup of the country is not an option, saying “ the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable ”.
He said those agitating for the breakup of the country were missing the point , as according to him , Nigeria had crossed many hurdles and that the only option was to move on in a progressive , peaceful and united manner .
In a statement by his Media Assistant, Paul Mumeh , on Friday , Mark spoke when he led members of the Nigeria Defence Academy 3 rd Regular Course Alumni Association on a courtesy visit to the Kaduna State Acting Governor , Alhaji Aminu Shagali, to mark the Golden Jubilee of their entry into the NDA .
The statement quoted him as saying , “We may have our disagreements , but a breakup is not an option . We can resolve our differences through meaningful dialogue and genuine conversation . There is no use heating up the polity .
“ Fifty years ago , we were admitted into NDA as cadets with a mission to protect and defend the territorial integrity of our nation . We were bonded by patriotism to keep Nigeria one. It is a sweet memory to gather in Kaduna once again . ”
He said the Alumni Association was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as a non - political, non - for - profit organisation , to carry out humanitarian activities such as offering scholarships and assisting widows , especially those of deceased members.
