Following the killing of over 50 persons in Benue State on the new year day, youths from the State trooped out en masse and blocked the popular Food Basket roundabout in Makurdi and other entry points.
With an inscription,"Stop Fulani Terrorists Killing Buhari Act Now OR RESIGN!" the protesting youths' action caused a heavy vehicular and human traffic.
It would be recalled that the victims met their deaths while coming back Tuesday early morning hour from church service to usher in the new year, when assailants believed to be Fulani herdsmen invaded parts of Guma and Local Government Areas killing about 50 people in their sporadic shootings.
It is on record that over 1,800 persons have been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in the State in three years due to clashes involving herdsmen. This led to promulgation of Anti - Open Grazing Law signed in November 1, 2017 and its implementation in which nine Livestock Guards assigned the duty were killed.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has expressed sadness at the 'wicked and callous' attacks. He assured Gov. Ortom and Benue people that relevant agencies have been directed to arrest those behind the incidents and to avert further attacks.
However, reports monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that eight herdsmen have been arrested by the Police. The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mr. Moses Yamu stated this, according to NAN. Six were arrested in Guma and two in Logo Local Government Areas.
