FULANI HERDSMEN KILL 50, SACK 5 TOWNS

More than 50 persons have been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen, leaving many wounded. The victims are Logo and Guma Local Government Areas of Benue State. The attackers invaded five communities around 10:00am on new year day and early hours of Tuesday.
The killers attacked a suburb of Ayilamo and Turan in Gambetiev, Logo LGA when  residents were ushering new year with prayers and praises in church. They were said to have proceeded to Tamatar and Umenger in Guma LGA around 3:00am and opened fire, killing some villagers and members of the State livestock guard and burnt a patrol vehicle.
Speaking to journalists at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), the State Governor, Samuel Orton lamented,"We are living in a country we call our own, yet this kind of thing is happening. The security agencies are aware of what you are seeing today and this is a tip of the iceberg.  What happened, from the report I have received, is far beyond what you have seen here. So many people been killed. Some are still missing.
" Can you imagine innocent children and women being killed and their private parts removed? People were slaughtered like animals. The Federal Government must rise to this challenge and give us protection, to show that truly we are also citizens of this country. This is not fair. This is not right, and we cannot accept it. We may continue to be law-abiding but there is a limit to how far."
More than 20 people, according to Gov. Orton, were killed, nine of whom were personnel of the livestock guard. Dr. Gajir Hembaor of BSUTH disclosed that over 30 injured persons were rushed to the hospital, three allegedly died later.
Meanwhile, the Police spokesman, Moses Yamu said that his men were still combing the bushes, adding that he could not ascertain casualty figures until he received a detailed report.
In the same development, Rivers State Gov. Nyesom Wine has placed an award of #200 million to any person with information leading to the arrest of the culprits in Omoku killing where over 21 people in the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA (ONE LGA) of rivers. The victims were coming back after new year church service.
A traditional ruler, Dr. Gambo Makama in Sanga LGA of Kaduna State and his wife, were killed. President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the killings and had directed law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts at apprehending the perpetrators.
