PRESIDENT BUHARI HAS NOT MET MY EXPECTATIONS, NBA SCRIBE M.O. UBANI

The second Vice President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Barr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani has unequivocally declared that President Buhari's leadership performance in the country has not met his expectations.
Speaking to the nationguardnews.com in his Ikeja Lagos office, Mr. Ubani who is the Principal Partner of Ubani & Co law firm, explained that the Buhari's Federal Government started in a paniky way by stopping importation of major foreign goods not yet produced enough in the country, poor handling of foreign exchange as it affected importers and the Naira values. He reiterated that Buhari leadership style has been too slow to meet up the expectations of many Nigerians, including him. "It is crawling to meet up few needs and expectations of Nigerians," he stated.
It will be recalled that former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida had on separate occasions warned President Buhari against seeking second tenure based on his poor leadership performance of his government in the critical affairs of the country.
On issue of granting amnesty to the Book Haram insurgency, the legal luminary who was the former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch (2012 -2014), queried the rationale behind such a move.
"Did Book Haram ask for amnesty? Do they feel remorse for their criminal activities and the atrocities they commit daily in the country? They are still bent on more destructions of lives in the country. They did not ask for amnesty. The Niger Delta militants were tired of their criminal activities and were ready to lay down their arms. The sought for amnesty and it was granted unto them. Book Haram has never asked for any amnesty," the human rights activist submitted.
On the fight against corruption in the country by the Buhari led Federal Government, Barr. Ubani remarked that corrupt politicians are many in the APC Government currently and wondered why no legal action has been taken against them. He observed that no positive change has been impacted on the citizenry by the administration. " The President is not working with the people. He traveled abroad but did not hand over power to the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo," he disclosed.
Reacting to President Buhari's speech in London that late Gaddafi of Libya's trained militias were the ones causing insecurity in Nigeria, NBA scribe said that it was not a right statement to make. He recalled that the same President Buhari advised the Benue people to accept the killers as their brothers by accommodating them in their midst. Is it not blowing hot and cold at the same time. The insurgents are criminals and must be treated as such."
On the forthcoming 2019 general elections, the University of Nigeria Nsukka law graduate, advised Nigerians to 'shine' their eyes in electing those that would lead them for the next four years. " Nigerians should be very careful. They should judge the candidates by their antecedents, character, and by what they can do. There are so many factors the electorate must put into consideration which include the age factor, character of the candidates, etc."
