Nigeria, another Africa's hope in Russia 2018 along side Senegal, has been sent home by her traditional enemy and superior in international football scenes, Argentina.
Playing at Saint Petersburg Stadium last night, the Argentina team drew the first blood in 14 minutes of the match. Lionel Messi, the hero of Argentina, scored his first goal in the tournament which equally is the 100th goal scored in Russia 2018. The second goal of the Argentina team that came late at 87 minutes to end the game and move Nigeria to round 16 was from Marcos Rojo who incidentally scored against Nigeria in 2014 World Cup.
Before that, but in the second half Mascherano was penalized for holding Balogun, and Victor Moses deceived Armani who moved to the right while ball rolled to into the net by the left.
Life came back to Nigeria who hitherto was no where to be found in the first half. It was Argentina all the way as their supporters cheered them up, blowing whistle in every corner of the stadium.
Argentina made five changes while Nigeria made none, relying on the players used to beat Iceland 2-0. Musa could not perform as expected while Ighalo flopped a priceless  opportunity when he had only the goalkeeper, Armani to beat and send Argentina home and Nigeria to the knock out stage.
With this development, Nigeria, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco are woeful failures even at group stage. It is only Senegal that is left to carry the Africa's burden and glory.
