FORMER GOV. DARIYE BAGS 14 YEARS IMPRISONMENT

The Federal Capital High Court in Gudu, has found Joshua Fariye, former Governor of Plateau State  guilty of misappropriating N1.16 billion Ecological Fund meant for the State. He is sentenced to 14 years in prison for criminal breach of trust, two years for misappropriation of public funds. He is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Justice Adebukola Banjoko of FCT High Court found him guilty. Talking to the prosecution lawyer just before the judge handed him his 14 years jail, he said: "Be merciful. You are a Christian, your name is Jacob."
This is the second time in one month Justice Adebukola Banjoko has sentenced two ex-governors to prison. The first was Reverend Jolly Name of Taraba State who received the same number of years.
Former Gov. Dariye was a serving senator. The trials had been going on for over eleven years. This last lap of the trial lasted about eight hours and it was discovered by the Justice that the serving Senator was in fact richer than his State, and said that, "there should be no compromise to corruption by whatever shade or colour, rich or poor."
Dariye made his son 'special duties' adviser.
